Career Success A to Z: XYZ is for…?

This article is part of a series. Learn more about it and access links to other articles in the series here.

Here we are…the final article in this A to Z series!

As you can see, I’m taking the easy way out and combining the last three (and most difficult) letters together into one and leaving the topic a mystery.

Yes, I’m kind of ashamed.

So why am I doing this? Well, quite honestly, my creativity is pretty dried up. More importantly, I’m ready for this series to be over. It was fun, but I think it’s run its course.

What’s left to be said about Career Success that hasn’t been covered so far? I’m sure I’ve missed a lot and one day, I’ll look back and think, “Oh man! How could I have missed this essential component??” But for now, I believe I’ve given it my best.

I will, however, wrap up with some final thoughts.

I do my best to practice what I preach. I am a lifelong learner and I do, indeed, view my own career as a journey.

Consequently, every once in a while, I suddenly realize that a belief I once held strongly has shifted. For instance, I used to advise that the best decisions are purely logical, devoid of emotion…and then I grew to understand the importance of emotions in decision-making.

That’s just one example, though I could cite roughly a dozen more like it.

I try not to hold so tight to my beliefs that I disregard new information when its presented.

My views on career success will likely continue to evolve in the future. If I were to do this same series a few years from now, I’m sure I would come up with all new topics to discuss.

Yes, over the years, my philosophy on life and work has changed, but a few things have remained the same.

  • I continue to believe that work is an important part of who we are and something that can enrich every other area of life.
  • I continue to believe that career success is a totally individual concept—your idea of what that looks like is probably not the same as mine.
  • And I continue to believe that striving for a successful, fulfilling career is a worthy undertaking.

I don’t expect these core beliefs will change much.

I also don’t claim to have all the answers. But I am passionate about these topics.

I will continue to learn and grow, just as you will. When you stumble upon a nugget of wisdom that opens your eyes to something you hadn’t seen before, I hope you’ll share it with me.

As you experience new heights of success in your career, I hope you’ll allow me to celebrate with you.

So this final installment in the Career Success A to Z series is dedicated to what’s to come…the unknown future we are all embarking on each day. It’s dedicated to the next phase of growth and the mystery that awaits us.

May the road ahead be full of pleasant surprises and adventure!

I hope you enjoyed this series. Remember, you can find a complete list of the A to Z articles here.
